Circle has received final approval from the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish Circle National Trust Bank, creating a federally regulated foundation for parts of the company’s stablecoin infrastructure.
SECTION // STABLECOINS
The trust bank is designed to provide digital-asset custody and, subject to operational readiness, manage a portion of the reserves supporting USDC. It is not a conventional deposit-taking bank: the structure focuses on custody, reserve administration and institutional digital-asset services.
For Circle, the approval moves a critical layer of stablecoin operations into a direct federal supervisory framework. That could make governance, segregation of assets and operational controls easier for institutional counterparties to evaluate.
The larger signal is that stablecoin infrastructure is being drawn closer to established banking oversight without being forced into a traditional retail-banking model. Execution will now matter as much as approval: Circle must translate the charter into operating systems, controls and transparent reporting.
