DTCC said it successfully converted securities held at DTC into tokens and used them in real production trades on July 15. The test covered multiple asset classes and market participants, moving tokenization beyond a laboratory demonstration.
The system creates blockchain-based digital twins of existing securities while preserving the legal ownership, dividend and governance rights of the underlying asset. That distinction matters: a regulated digital representation is not the same thing as a synthetic token that merely tracks a price.
A broader DTCC Tokenization Service is planned for October 2026. The operational question now shifts from whether market infrastructure can tokenize securities to how quickly collateral, settlement and compliance processes can adapt.
