Mastercard plans to expand stablecoin settlement for participating issuers and acquirers, adding regulated digital dollars and multiple blockchain networks to its existing settlement infrastructure.
SECTION // STABLECOINS
The company says the service is designed to support intraday, weekend and holiday settlement. Its announced scope includes USDC, PYUSD, USDG, USDP, RLUSD and SoFiUSD across networks including Arbitrum, Base, Canton, Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, Tempo and the XRP Ledger.
This is less about consumers choosing a token at checkout and more about the infrastructure behind card payments. Stablecoin settlement can give institutions additional windows for moving funds, managing liquidity and reconciling obligations outside conventional banking hours.
The breadth of supported assets and networks is notable, but operational controls will decide whether the model scales. Issuers and acquirers still need clear rules for reserves, redemption, network risk, treasury policy and jurisdiction-specific compliance.
