Mastercard Moves to Acquire BVNK for Onchain Payment Infrastructure

Mastercard has agreed to acquire stablecoin-infrastructure company BVNK, a move intended to connect onchain payment flows more directly with established fiat rails.

SECTION // PAYMENTS

BVNK provides infrastructure for businesses to send, receive, store and convert stablecoins alongside conventional currencies. Mastercard says the combination would expand its ability to support programmable money and stablecoin settlement within its global payment network.

The transaction reflects a broader shift from limited crypto integrations toward ownership of core operating infrastructure. Payment companies increasingly want direct control over orchestration, liquidity and compliance rather than relying only on external connections.

The strategic case is clear, but integration will be the harder test. Mastercard must connect BVNK’s technology and regulatory footprint with its existing systems while preserving service continuity across multiple currencies, networks and jurisdictions.
